The 12th edition of the Aegean Cup 2011 is going to be start today with Turkey-Denmark Group A and Czech Republic-Switzerland Group B matches.  The Aegean Cup will be held at Manisa, Turkey between 24-29 January 2011 and eight U16 national teams will participate into the cup, including hosts Turkey.

This year the 12th edition of the Aegean Cup will take place and the tournament will continue its tradition to be a showcase for various youth national teams. Turkey were crowned champions 6 times in the cup which was first held in 1999 and missed in 2005, France won three times, whereas Ukraine, Russia lifted the trophy once.

Started under the name "Bora Öztürk Tournament" in 1999 with the participation of Turkey, Romania and Russia, is being organized as "Aegean Cup since 2002. Turkey took part in all past tournaments as hosts, while Romania and Belgium took part nine times. Ukraine follow them with eight tournament participations.
Originally played  as a U15 level tournament, Aeagean Cup's age level was first pushed to U17 in 2002 before being pulled back to U16 in 2004. So far, playing 42 matches in the tournament's history, Turkey recorded 28 wins, 10 draws and 4 defeats. They scored 96 goals, conceding 37 goals in those matches.
