The 21th Aegean Cup will kick off on 14 January this year. Three districts of İzmir will host the tournament. Total of 16 matches will be played and U16 teams of Ireland, Ukraine, Tanzania, South Korea, Macedonia, Albania, Kosovo and Turkey are this year’s participants for the 2020 Aegean Cup. Twenty five different countries participated in the tournament so far. The first ever Aegean Cup was played on 1999 with only three countries. Turkey has won the most championships in the Aegean Cup with nine titles. France has won the cup for six times. Greece two times, Russia, Ukraine and USA has won the title one time. In 1999 the tournament was played in the name of Bora Öztürk. The tournament was renamed as Aegean Cup after 2002. Ukraine and Greece took place in the tournament 15 times and they are the countries with most participation. Belgium follows them with 13 participation. The Czech Republic, Romania and France are the third countrys competed in the Aegean Cup with 11 participation. Scandinavian side Norway took place in the tournament eight times. One time Aegean Cup champions Russia competed seven times. Netherlands, Denmark, and the USA participated in the competition four times, Azerbaijan, Scotland three times and Slovakia, Kosovo, Montenegro, Albania, Moldova and Spain competed two times. Belarus, Israel, Egypt, Switzerland, England and Macedonia competed in the Aegean Cup one time. Nine-time Aegean Cup champions Turkey played 80 matches in the tournament and won 53 of them. Eighteen games ended with a draw, and nine matches ended with a loss. Turkey scored 173 goals in these matches while conceding 63. Well-known superstars like Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial (Manchester United), Divock Origi (Liverpool), Kurt Zouma and Lucas Digne (Everton), Alexander Lacazette (Arsenal), Mbaye Niang (Stade Rennais), Alphonse Areola (PSG), Geoffrey Kondogbia (Valencia), Samuel Umtiti (Barcelona),Thorgan Hazard (Borussia Mönchengladbach) and Pavel Kaderabek (Hoffenheim) has played in the Aegean Cup in the previous years. Toplam 16 karşılaşmanın oynanacağı Ege Kupası’na İzmir’in ilçeleri ve Kuşadası ev sahipliği yapacak. Mercedes-Benz Ege Kupası’na, bugüne kadar 25 farklı ülkenin takımları katıldı. İlki 1999 yılında üç takımın katılımıyla düzenlenen; 2005 ve 2018’de ise organize edilmeyen kupada Türkiye 9 şampiyonluk elde etti. Fransa 5’i üst üste olmak üzere 6, Yunanistan 2, Rusya, ABD ve Ukrayna da 1’er kez şampiyon oldu. 1999’da Bora Öztürk Turnuvası ismiyle oynanan turnuva, 2002’den itibaren Ege Kupası adıyla düzenlenmeye başlandı. Turnuvaya Ukrayna ve Yunanistan 15, Belçika 13, Romanya, Fransa ve Çek Cumhuriyeti 11, Norveç sekiz, Rusya yedi, ABD, Hollanda ve Danimarka dört, İskoçya ve Azerbaycan üç, Slovakya, Kosova, Karadağ, Arnavutluk, Moldova ve İspanya iki, Belarus, İsrail, Mısır, İsviçre, İngiltere ve Makedonya da birer kez katıldı. Türkiye 9 kez kazandığı kupada bugüne kadar 80 maç oynadı. Bu maçlarda 53 galibiyet elde eden Türkiye, 18 beraberlik, 9 da yenilgi aldı. Türkiye bu karşılaşmalarda 173 gol atarken, 63 golü de kalesinde gördü. Ege Kupası’nda geçmişte birçok yıldız oyuncu da forma giydi.
