Okan and Emres farewell to the national team

Veteran Turkish international players Okan Buruk and Emre Aşık will bid farewell to the national team after wearing the Crescent-Star shirt for the last time in the friendly match against Czech Republic on 22 May in United States.

Okan and Emre players were indispensable members of Turkish national team when it made a huge leap on the international stage. Both aged 37, thanks to their extremely professional life they managed to stretch their careers that long. Two players will quit international football after playing against Czech Republic at 12.30 on 22 May at Red Bull Arena in New Jersey.

Okan Buruk profile

Coming through the youth ranks of Galatasaray, Okan Buruk's international debut came on 1992. He was a member of Turkey's EURO 2000 squad who reached quarter-finals and 2002 FIFA World Cup squad who won the world third place. Capped 55 times for the senior national team, he wore the national team shirt 96 times overall. He became a UEFA Cup and UEFA Super Cup winner with Galatasaray in 2000 before playing for Inter, Beşiktaş, Galatasaray and Büyükşehir Bld. Spor.

Emre Aşık profile

One of the most consistent players of Turkish football, Emre started football at Bursa side Sönmez Filamentspor. Respectively he played for Balıkesirspor, Fenerbahçe, İstanbulspor, Galatasaray, Beşiktaş and returned to Galatasaray in 2006. Capped 33 times for the senior national team, he took part in 52 international matches. He was a member of Turkey's world third place winning squad at 2002 FIFA World Cup and EURO 2008 squad where Turkey finished as semi-finalists.
