EURO 2024 Candidacy Coordination Meeting held

UEFA 2024 European Football Championship Candidacy Coordination meeting has been held at the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) Beykoz-Riva administrative centre with the participation of Minister of Youth and Sports Osman Aşkın Bak as well as the Governors, Metropolitan Mayors and representatives of the nine cities included in the candidacy file.
 
Hosted by TFF Chairman Yıldırım Demirören in the TFF Hasan Doğan National Teams Training and Camp Facilities Orhan Saka Conference Hall, the meeting featured the following participants:  TFF 1st Deputy Chairman and UEFA Board Member Servet Yardımcı, Deputy Chairman Ali Dürüst, Board and Executive Board members Cengiz Zülfikaroğlu and Ali Düşmez, Board Members Alaattin Aykaç and Fuat Guguloğlu besides Secretary General Kadir Kardaş.
 
The following governors of the cities included in the candidacy file have participated in the meeting too: adaylık dosyasında yer alan kentleri İstanbul Governor Vasip Şahin, Eskişehir Governor Özdemir Çakacak, Bursa Governor İzzettin Küçük, Gaziantep Governor Ali Yerlikaya, Kocaeli Governor Hüseyin Aksoy, Konya Governor Yakup Canbolat, Trabzon Governor Yücel Yavuz, Ankara Deputy Governor, İsmail Küreci and Antalya Deputy Governor Nurettin Ateş, İstanbul Metropolitan Mayor Mevlüt Uysal, Bursa Metropolitan Mayor Alinur Aktaş, Konya Metropolitan Mayor Tahir Akyürek, Trabzon Metropolitan Mayor Dr. Orhan Fevzi Gümrükçüoğlu, Antalya Metropolitan Deputy Mayor Abdurrahman Yılmaz, Eskişehir Metropolitan Deputy Mayor Abdülkadir Adar besides Kocaeli Büyükşehir Metropolitan Deputy Mayor Zekeriya Özak.
 
In addition to that, Sports Assistant General Manager Mehmet Baykan and Spor Toto Organization Chairman Mehmet Muharrem Kasapoğlu participated in the meeting too.
 
The governors and mayors of the nine cities and their mayors and representatives were informed on the case through a presentation made by TFF Secretary General regarding EURO 2024 candidacy as well as the responsibilities of their cities.

Minister of Youth and Sports Osman Aşkın Bak spoke at the meeting and said that Turkey is proud thanks to the fact that most of the stadiums that were only in the project phase in 2010 when Turkey was applying to run as a candidate for the 2016 European Football Championship have been mostly completed today: "We have invested approximately 4 billion TL in 31 stadium projects and we are proud that we have completed a level of constructing facilities unprecedented in the history of Europe. If we are granted the right to organize the event in Turkey, it will contribute significantly to our country and the cities involved. We will work hard with our Governors and Mayors for sure. This is a national mission. I believe that if Turkey becomes the host of Euro 2024, we will make a significant difference in the history of this championship as a role model country in the region besides the value Turkey contributes to European football. EURO 2024 becomes Turkey."
 
TFF Chairman Yıldırım Demirören has also spoken in the event and explained that they believe Turkey will be granted the right to host the 2024 European Football Championship under the auspices of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and guarantee of the Government as well as support of esteemed Governors and mayors participating in the meeting.
 
TFF will hand the 2024 European Football Championship candidacy file to the UEFA on 27 April 2018 while the file will feature the following cities: İstanbul (Atatürk Olympiad Stadium and Ali Sami Yen Sports Complex Türk Telekom Stadium), Bursa (Büyükşehir Belediye Stadium), Antalya (Antalya Stadium), Eskişehir (Eskişehir New Stadium), Gaziantep (Gaziantep Stadium), Konya (Metropolitan Stadium), Trabzon (Şenol Güneş Sports Complex), Kocaeli (New Stadium), Ankara (New Stadium). UEFA Board will announce the name of the country that will host EURO 2024 in a meeting to be held in September 2018.
