The European press gave wide coverage to the victory of our National Team, which defeated Austria 2-1 in EURO 2024 Round of 16 and reached the quarter-finals.

Regarding Mert Günok's last-minute save, British broadcaster BBC asked, "Was this one of the best saves in the history of the European Championship?". The Guardian wrote, "Demiral's two goals took Turkey to the quarter-finals.". Sky Sports UK stated, "Merih Demiral's goals and Mert Günok's great save in the last minutes took Türkiye to the quarter-finals.".

Italian media outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport made the headline, "Demiral exaggerated: Two goals against Austria, Montella's Türkiye is in the quarter-finals.".

The famous Spanish newspaper Marca published, "Demiral scored two goals that will make Türkiye the champion.". Referring to English goalkeeper Gordon Banks, who was selected as the second best goalkeeper of the 20th century by International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS), ESPN shared, "Türkiye's 'Gordon Banks' save stunned Austria.".

Germany-based Bild newspaper shared images from the post-match victory celebrations and wrote, "Thousands of Turkish fans are celebrating the victory against Austria.".

Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf stated, "The national anthems had not yet ended when the ball hit the net. Merih Demiral took advantage of a mistake made by  theAustrian defense in just one minute.".

French newspaper Le Monde also shared their opinion, "The smell of revenge in the air of Red Bull Arena (Austria won 6-1) reached the noses of the Austrians very quickly. Merih Demiral took advantage of the chaos in the penalty area.".
