Turkish Football Federation (TFF) unveiled Abdullah Avcı as new Turkey coach, signing a contract with the former Istanbul BB SK boss until 31 May 2015.

Speaking at the contract signing ceremony held at TFF headquarters in Istanbul, Turkish Football Federation president Mehmet Ali Aydınlar said: "Mr. Avcı deserves this post as a UEFA European Under-17 Championship winner and FIFA U-17 World Cup semi-finalist and he got it. I believe he'll put  his mark on many successes during his working term, while new coach Avcı added: "It's an honourable job as much as it requires huge responsibility. I'm very happy to be deemed for such a position. Turkey'll make big moves and we'll share this with the public."

Born in 1963 in Istanbul, Abdullah Avcı played for Vefaspor, F. Karagümrük, Çaykur Rizespor, Kahramanmaraşspor, Bakırköyspor, Kasımpaşa, İstanbulspor AŞ, Küçükçekmecespor, Nişantaşıspor  respectively and retired in 1999 at the club where he started football.

Avcı's coaching career began at İstanbulspor AŞ in 1999 before a spell as Galatasaray AŞ youth academy chief. He took over Turkey U17 team and in his first season secured victory at the 2005 European finals in Italy and reached the FIFA U-17 World Cup semis in Peru.

In August 2006 he moved to İstanbul BB, leading them to promotion in his first season and keeping them in the Super League ever since. Starting from 2006, he guided his team in 205 matches in a consistent manner and took İstanbul BB to Turkish Cup final last season for the first time in club's history.
